Spotify Introduces AI Persona Label for AI-Generated Artist Identities
Spotify is bringing a way for people to find out who or what is behind an artist profile. The music streaming service has shared news about its AI Persona label a mark meant to show that some artist identities are made by intelligence and look like real people. This change is part of Spotify’s plan to make it clearer, to listeners when an artist is real or created by AI.
What Is Spotify’s AI Persona Label?
Spotify defines an AI Persona as an artist whose public identity represents an AI-generated photorealistic human. That public identity can include the artist’s name, profile imagery and other visual elements presented to listeners.
The company says people are upset after finding out that some profiles that looked like real people were actually fake. The new symbol is meant to show this difference clearly before users get too involved, with an artist.
Two Types of AI Persona Badges
Spotify is going to have two versions of the label. Artists can choose to tell Spotify about themselves using Spotify for Artists. The profiles of those Artists will get a badge that says “AI Persona” on it. Artists, with this badge are the ones who used Spotify for Artists to identify themselves as Artists.
Spotify can also check profiles on its own. If the service thinks that an artists public identity looks like it was made by an AI the profile might get a label that says ” AI Persona.”
So artists who get a badge from Spotify will be told about it. These artists can then say yes they are using an AI Persona or they can say no the badge is wrong if they think Spotify made a mistake with the label, on their Spotify account.
Where Will Listeners See the Label?
The AI Persona badge will not be limited to one small part of an artists profile. Spotify says the label will show up next to artist names on profiles. It will also be, inside the section. The label will appear in mobile search results. It will be next to track listings within playlists.
That wider visibility could make it easier for listeners to understand what kind of artist they are discovering before following or exploring more music.
AI Personas Will Lose Default Recommendations
That wider visibility could make it easier for listeners to understand what kind of artist they are discovering before following or exploring more music.
Spotify says music from AI Persona artists will not be included by default in editorial or algorithmic recommendations. An exception can apply when a listener intentionally engages with the artist, such as by following the profile.
The Badge Does Not Mean the Music Is AI-Generated
This is the important point about the announcement. An AI Persona badge does not mean that the artists songs were made using intelligence. This is the important point, about the announcement.
Spotify says the new badge is about the artists identity, not how they make their music. So a song made by a person could be listed under an artist name and a real artist who uses some computer tools to make music is still a real artist, not a fake one made by a computer.
Spotify Pushes for More AI Transparency
The Spotify AI Persona label represents another step in the music industry’s response to rapidly growing AI-generated content.
Spotify is not going to stop synthetic artist identities. Instead they want to make sure people know what is real. What is not. Artists can still decide how they want to be seen by others.. Now people who listen to music will get better information, about the artist they are listening to.
As the badges start showing up in mid-September people using Spotify will have a time telling real human artists apart, from AI characters that look and act like real people when they are looking through the app.
