Ed Sheeran–Macklemore Tour Controversy: What Happened on the Loop Tour?
Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour has sparked a controversy in the music industry because rapper Macklemore was removed from the rest of the U.S. Tour dates. The removal of Macklemore happened after rapper Macklemore made comments about Palestine while performing.

Why Was Macklemore Removed From Ed Sheeran’s Tour?
Macklemore Spoke About Palestine During His Set
Macklemore opened the shows for Ed Sheeran at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on September 4 and September 5 2026.
On the night of September 4 I heard Macklemore speak about supporting Palestinians. He shouted the words “Free Palestine.” While performing he played his song “Hind’s Hall”. Images, from Gaza were shown on the screen. The comments turned into a topic, for public discussion. The Israeli American Council later started a petition asking that Macklemore be taken off the tour.
What Did the Tour Promoter Say?
Messina Touring Group, the promoter for the U.S. Leg of the Loop Tour said that venues, for shows had told the tour they would not allow concerts to happen if Macklemore was part of the lineup.
According to the promoter keeping Macklemore on the tour could have caused shows to be canceled and hurt hundreds of thousands of ticket holders. Macklemore was therefore taken off the remaining support dates.
Ed Sheeran Responds to the Controversy
Ed Sheeran later spoke out about the situation in a statement. He said he had talked with Macklemore, the promoters, the venues and people, from all sides of the issue. He explained that the choice to remove Macklemore came from the promoter not from him.
Sheeran also explained that he prefers his concerts to remain a place where people from different backgrounds can come together rather than using his performances as a political platform.
The singer said his personal decision not to speak publicly about the conflict should not be interpreted as meaning that the singer does not care about the suffering involved.
Other Artists Withdraw From the Loop Tour
I thought the controversy would end after Macklemore was removed. The controversy continued. Four other acts connected to the tour announced that Finneas, Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe and Beoga would no longer perform on dates.
The artists gave statements explaining their decisions. However the artists’ announcements were tied to concerns that artists could not speak publicly about the conflict. Finneas said that artists should not be silenced when speaking about people. Beoga said that performing at venues where such advocacy was restricted was not an option, for the group.

The U.S. Tour Is Still Scheduled to Continue
The next U.S. Show is set for September 19 2026 at Lincoln Financial Field, in Philadelphia. As of September 16 no new opening act has been announced for the U.S. Show.
